El viernes 13 de octubre se realizó en San Carlos de Apoquindo, la sexta versión del New Balance Finals Santiago 2023. Olimpiadas Especiales compitió en la categoría inclusiva con 10 atletas, logrando un total de 14 medallas.
El público de San Carlos de Apoquindo se paró de sus asientos para aplaudir a los 10 atletas de Olimpiadas Especiales que compitieron el viernes 13 de octubre, en el Torneo New Balance Finals, Santiago 2023.
Un gran ambiente había en el recinto de la Universidad Católica. Las tribunas de la pista de recortan estaban repletas para ver a los atletas que llegaron de distintas partes de Chile y Latinoamérica. Olimpiadas Especiales compitió en la categoría inclusiva donde los deportistas lograron 14 medallas en las pruebas de salto largo, 100 metros planos y la posta 4 x 100.
El primero en llegar al recinto fue el atleta Mateo Rojas, quien con muchas ganas de competir y pasarlo bien nos contó que “estoy preparado para competir en los 100 metros planos y en el salto largo. Además, soy cruzado así que feliz de estar en este lugar”.
Cerca de las 19:40 horas se realizó la prueba de los 100 metros planos en la categoría inclusión. En damas el primer lugar lo obtuvo la medallista de Berlín, Javiera Saldaña, mientras que en varones Luis Quiñones se quedó con la preciada de oro, ante una multitud que no los paraba de aplaudir. “Realmente se pasaron y dejaron todo en la pista. Muy lindo ver que se haya incluido a esta categoría”, señaló Paulina, quien asistió al torneo junto a toda su familia.
La marca deportiva organizadora se mostró feliz de la alianza realizada con Olimpiadas Especiales. “Estamos muy felices de tener esta categoría inclusiva, creo que es la cuarta versión que Special Olympics nos acompaña y es muy importante tenerlos presentes. Creemos que la inclusión es parte súper importante del campeonato. Realmente es un gran privilegio contar con ustedes en esta fiesta del atletismo”, señaló Fernando Padovani, Brand manager de New Balance.
En el torneo también participaron reconocidos atletas que estarán presentes en los Juegos Panamericanos, además de talentosos deportistas escolares dentro de los 1.800 deportistas que llegaron a participar.
