La efeméride se conmemora cada 12 de noviembre a nivel mundial, siendo instituida por la OMS (Organización Mundial de la Salud) con el objetivo informar y sensibilizar a la población sobre la necesidad de la adopción de medidas para prevenir y tratar el sobrepeso y la obesidad.
En todo el mundo -y en Chile especialmente- la palabra obesidad es tema común de conversación, pero ¿Qué es en realidad la obesidad?
La obesidad es una enfermedad compleja que consiste en tener una cantidad excesiva de grasa corporal. No es solo un asunto estético, es un problema médico que aumenta el riesgo de problemas de salud, tales como enfermedades cardíacas, diabetes, presión arterial alta y ciertos tipos de cáncer.
¿Sabías que? Según la Encuesta Nacional de Salud, el 39,8% de la población chilena mayor de 15 años tiene sobrepeso. El sedentarismo es una causa importante de estas cifras, ya que un 86,7% de las y los chilenos no realiza actividad física.
Para combatir esta enfermedad y revertir las cifras, es clave tener una vida saludable y activa. Es necesario alimentarse bien y mantener el cuerpo en movimiento, lo que puede ser un desafío para muchas personas.
Afortunadamente, existen diversas instancias para que todas las personas, con o sin discapacidad, puedan desarrollar actividad física.
Una de ellas es Corporate Challenge, una carrera virtual a realizarse el 3, 4 y 5 de diciembre, especialmente diseñada para que las empresas promuevan la actividad física entre su personal, enfrentando el sedentarismo y la obesidad.
